Welcome to Zoo Kindergarten!

Join us as we explore the Henry Doorly Zoo

We are students from Omaha Public Schools/Bancroft Elementary School. We attend Kindergarten in the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. We are an all day Kindergarten located in the Dairy Theatre building near the Fossil Dig site.

Our curriculum is based on the Omaha Public Schools content standards with a Zoo emphasis. Each day we take a "walkabout" with a particular animal, classification,  habitat, or behavior in mind. For example, we might be learning about birds or perhaps, more specifically, penguins. We might broaden the study to include ecosystems or biomes. We integrate concepts in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Zoo Keepers  take us on behind-the-scenes tours so we can  experience and better understand more about individual animals and species. We create and share books and stories about our experiences and the information we have learned.

The children in the Zoo Kindergarten program must attend Bancroft School. Children are chosen through a lottery system. Our classroom makeup is comparable to the classrooms in the "Big School" of Bancroft. Our ratio is typically 16-17 children and 2 adults. We serve a hot breakfast and hot lunch daily. Our hours are from 8:40 to 3:00 PM.

Transportation is not district provided. Parents must be able to transport on a daily basis. Children should be 5 years old by July 31 of the school year enrolled as required by law.
